Dr. Md. Mahmud Alam

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

My present research activities are the development of electrochemical sensors for trace detection of toxic-chemical, biochemical, and heavy metal-ions applying the techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The semi-conductive metal oxides, inorganic-polymer nanocomposites, conductive polymer, carbon nanotubes, and graphene oxides are potential electro-catalyst components for these studies. This electro-catalysis research can expand to develop electrochemical sensor & biosensor for diagnosis of disease biomarkers (cancer and others), drag delivery, and tissue engineering. Besides this, the electrocatalytic research can be employed to the reduction of N2 to NH3, the decomposition of NH3 to H2, the reduction of CO2 to methanol, methane, formic acid, etc. and the decomposition of methanol/ethanol to H2 for the fuel cell.

Using the concept of electrochemistry, the invention of new and novel nanomaterials for 4th generation batteries, and supercapacitors is a trance of my research ambition. On the other hand, the development of potential catalysts can fulfil the demand of the energy crisis of the world by inexpensive electrolyzing of water into H2 and O2.
